Our calendar photo for July is Home Supply Ditch and the City of Loveland diversion structure on the Big Thompson River. The dam is among the oldest of its type in the West and was designated a Colorado Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1985. The huge sandstone blocks that make up the dam were cut to fit the upstream arch design. This arch design transfers the water pressure on the dam into the canyon walls on either side. The Home Supply Ditch diversion structure is owned by the Consolidated Home Supply Ditch & Reservoir Company, which delivers water through its system of ditches and reservoirs on the south side of the Big Thompson River in Weld and Larimer Counties. The combination of ditches and reservoirs irrigates approximately 17,000 acres and is the water supply for the Town of Johnstown. Our June calendar photo is Goose Pasture Tarn, aka Goose Pasture Reservoir 6. Goose Pasture Tarn is located in Summit County, two miles south of Breckenridge. Originally completed in 1965, the dam and reservoir are owned and operated by the Town of Breckenridge. The lake surface is 68 acres, and Goose Pasture Tarn typically stores 812 acre-feet of water. Water levels have been lowered as part of an extensive rebuilding project that is scheduled to be completed in 2023. The portion of the water stored in the lake is a result of a change in the Lusher Ditch water right, and is used for irrigation, municipal, domestic, and industrial uses, including snow-making purposes @breckenridgemtn ski area. 🎿⛷️ Learn more about Colorado’s historic water projects with your very own Applegate Group 2023 calendar! 📆 Get one here: https://lnkd.in/e4-XzbWg #waterresources #waterrights #waterresourcemanagement #waterresourcesengineering #lake #irrigation #breckenridge #skiarea #skiing #snowmaking #summitcounty #colorado #coloradolife #agcalendarphotos

Project Spotlight: Turnout 42 on Section 5 of Fruitland’s Canal Improvement Project An elbow on the end of the turnout pipe ensures the pipe flows full so that the solar-powered magnetic flow meter (inside the black ADS pipe meter pit) will read flows accurately. The water then enters a sedimentation basin before a piped intake that feeds the farmer’s fields irrigated with gated pipe. The shotcrete lined canal is in the background on the righthand side of the photo. #waterresourcesengineering #waterresources #waterresourcemanagement #waterrights #irrigation #canal #colorado
